Kimmie Rhodes cancels tour to be with her husband during cancer treatment

Kimmie Rhodes

Kimmie Rhodes has cancelled her dates in England and Scotland next month to be with her husband while he undergoes his final round of chemotherapy.

Rhodes, who is touring in support of her new album Dreams of Flying, had been due to play in London, Wimborne, Bedford, Brighton, Bristol, Nottingham, Newcastle and Glasgow between May 5 and 14. She still plans to complete the Irish stage of her tour, beginning on May 20 in Omagh, with her son Gabriel Rhodes and French musician Fred de Fred.

Rhodes’ husband Joe Gracey is receiving chemotherapy for oesophageal cancer, more than 30 years after a first bout of cancer robbed him of his voice. He has been undergoing surgery and treatment since the new cancer was diagnosed in 2009. In an interview with Backroads last year, Rhodes described the hope that one part of the surgery would allow Gracey to speak again.

Rhodes’ publicist says the chemotherapy is working, but she has decided to stay home to support Gracey through the final round.

Rhodes and Gracey recently moved from Austin to the south of France.
