John Prine's label to issue live album and tribute album

April 9, 2010 Comments: 0

John Prine’s Oh Boy Records label has announced that it will be releasing both a new live album from the veteran artist and a tribute album in coming months.
The live album, In Person & On Stage, is scheduled for US release on May 25. Compiled from concert recordings over the past few years, it is a mixture of classic hits and of popular songs from his most recent studio album, the Grammy-winning Fair and Square.
Many of the 14 tracks are duets, including “In Spite of Ourselves” with Iris Dement, “The Late John Garfield Blues” with Sara Watkins, “Angel From Montgomery” with Emmylou Harris and “Paradise” with Kane Welch Kaplin.
Oh Boy is following that up with what it calls a “celebration album”, entitled Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine.
“These artists have recorded their own version of some of Prine’s most popular songs to celebrate the man whose music has a passion and a poignancy that is virtually unmatched,” Oh Boy said.

1. Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow) – Justin Vernon
2. Wedding Day in Funeralville – Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band
